Toledo, Ohio — June 4, 2024 — The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation is proud to announce that it has awarded $1.3 million in grants to 62 nonprofit organizations in the northwest Ohio region. These grants are intended to support the Foundation's three giving areas of food security, housing stability, and youth education through various activities, including capital projects, program expenses, general operating costs, and new project development.

As a young and growing organization, the Foundation's mission is to invest in initiatives to strengthen families and the communities in which they live, work, and play through partnerships with nonprofits in the Greater Toledo Area.

"We are honored to support the incredible work being done by these organizations," said Mike Deetsch, executive director of the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation. "Their commitment to enhancing the well-being of our communities is truly inspiring, and we are grateful to play a part in helping them achieve their goals."

The recent funding has been awarded to a diverse group of organizations striving to positively impact the lives of individuals and families in the Greater Toledo Area. Among the recipients are:

  • Islamic Food Bank: This organization fights food insecurity in northwest Ohio by identifying and filling gaps to expand access to nutritious, culturally relevant food.
  • Grace Community Center: This organization encourages the personal development and self-actualization of its residents through programs and services. It promotes social action efforts that support the growth of individuals and families.
  • Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity: This organization brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope for people in need in Lucas County, Ohio.

"These are just a few of the outstanding organizations receiving support from the Foundation. All of our grantees are doing invaluable work in our community," said Kate Blake, president of the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation. "We are excited and deeply humbled to support their efforts."

The Foundation's funding aims to foster sustainable and meaningful change. Whether it's providing safe and affordable housing, ensuring access to nutritious food, or enhancing educational opportunities for youth, the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation is committed to supporting initiatives that create lasting benefits for individuals and families in need.

The Foundation's roots trace back to the entrepreneurial spirit of John Henry Eldred Jr., who, despite a challenging childhood, embodied fairness, adventure, and compassion. His dedication to philanthropy grew from a profound belief that all individuals deserve a chance. Over the years, he built two successful businesses, Midwest Tape | Hoopla and Dreamscape Media, and, in honor of his mother, Dorothy Louise Kyler, founded the Dorothy Louise Kyler Foundation to support low-income rural libraries.

In 2023, the Foundation was renamed the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation to honor his legacy and expand its reach to support regional nonprofits.
