
John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation Welcomes Mike Deetsch as New Executive Director
TOLEDO, Ohio — March 11, 2024 — The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Mike Deetsch as its new executive director, effective April 1, 2024. Deetsch brings over 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience within urban and rural settings, including significant contributions to the Toledo Museum of Art, where he most recently served as director of development.
Deetsch's extensive background includes a robust track record in audience engagement, board and donor relations, museum management, strategic planning, and education, curatorial and public programming. As director of development for the Museum, Deetsch led all aspects of the Museum's fundraising efforts, including grants, membership, sponsorships, and annual funds.
During his tenure at the Museum from 2013 to 2024, Deetsch held various other positions, including Emma Leah Bippus Senior Director of Learning and Interpretation, Emma Leah Bippus Director of Education and Engagement, and Assistant Director of Education. In these roles, he spearheaded initiatives for the Museum's learning and interpretation department, including outreach, curriculum development, studio classes, docent-led tours, gallery interpretation, and more.
As the new executive director of the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation, Deetsch will oversee the strategic direction and daily operations, working closely with the board, staff, and the communities the Foundation serves. His appointment marks a pivotal moment for the organization as it embarks on a new chapter of impact, guided by a recently adopted strategic plan.
Speaking on his new role, Deetsch expressed enthusiasm, stating, "The opportunity to drive transformational impact in Northwest Ohio is what attracted me to the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation and its mission. As a resident of Toledo myself, I'm thrilled to be part of an organization that will leave a legacy for generations to come."
Deetsch aims to amplify the Foundation's work, collaborating with the board and community leaders to address significant needs in the region. He emphasized his commitment to investing in innovative projects that tackle education, housing, and food insecurity challenges, taking a holistic approach to supporting families in the Greater Toledo Area. "I'm eager to work with community leaders and partners to help make Toledo the best place it can be for everyone who lives, works, and plays here," Deetsch said.
